Brycen Rearick
Hello! My name is Brycen Rearick and I’m from Central Pennsylvania. I was introduced to hunting at a very young age, around seven, by my old man who is an absolute whitetail smasher. Thankful to him, I’ve been in this game for almost sixteen years with these beautiful animals. With hunting as my primary focus year-round, whitetails are definitely my favorite species to hunt. I sprinkle in the obvious turkey, waterfowl, bear, pheasant, etc. here and there, as every PA outdoorsman should, but whitetails are my addiction. Fishing also holds a special place in my heart, which my dad and grandfather introduced me to at a young age as well.
I played Division II (PSAC) baseball up north at Mansfield University and spent many days fishing Pine and Kettle Creek. Because of this, I quickly found trout to be my favorite species to fish for, and to be specific, native brookies. The memory of walking behind my grandparents with a kid rod, watching them fish and trying to land fish myself is a memory that will last a lifetime. Traveling out of state fishing and hunting is an experience I recommend everyone tries at least once! Being able to travel to the Wyoming and fish the Snake River to land beautiful cutthroat trout without a guide or any experience was an absolute dream. When it comes to hunting, I have been fortunate enough to hunt Maryland, Ohio, WV, Virginia and Iowa. From the very first buck I harvested to the most recent, every hunt has been so different, yet so special in their own ways. You can learn so much in the woods even amidst the failures, the “so close” days, the grinding days, and the successful ones.
My True North is the pursuit of anything outdoors. I think in today’s world, people have forgotten the difference between killing and hunting. There is a beautiful feeling of mixed emotions for me when I have success in the woods. No matter how hard it is or how hard I am, when it all comes together, the world seems to stop spinning the second I’m given the honor and pleasure of kneeling down next to my harvest. All the preparation, the sacrifice, the moments, the harvest, and the memories that come after… they’re all my True North.
